Nithin Shams’ artistic practice revolves around opening sonic portals to facilitate listeners to enter an open and attentive state of mind. Guided by intuitive processes, and practices of deep listening, Nithin composes and curates listening spaces aimed at blurring the boundaries between the self and the other, opening up a space for reflection as well as slowness.

Nithin is currently engaged in an artistic-research project where he is archiving the call of the Azan as it reverberates through the cities, towns, and villages of India. This project evolved in a context where the sound of the Azan, is being framed by right-wing ethnonationalist political movements as an 'outsider' sound in the soundscape of the Indian subcontinent. His work attempts to create engaged listening situations where new forms of listening to the Azan can emerge.

Since 2021, he curates, Free.wav, an educational sonic arts residency, at Bhoomi Farms in Attapadi, Kerala.

He dreams of creating an artistic institute at Bhoomi Farms that engages the local community and serves as a meeting point for various artistic perspectives to meet and nurture each other.

Nithin is currently developing his practice at the Masters in Sound Studies and Sonic Arts program at the University of Arts in Berlin.
