Leonard Maassen

In June 2023, I recorded the sounds of the early summer ice melt on the Morteratsch Glacier in Switzerland. Together with mountain guide Simone Porta, we visited caves, streams and waterfalls up to 30 metres deep inside the ice. I also worked in the area around the glacier to listen to the water descending through the valley, over stones, soil and trees. These audio-visual recordings contribute to our archival memory of global ice formations as they recede and transform with climate change.
